Eying demand

THYSSENKRUPP AG, the German industrial conglomerate, aims to tap demand from commercial vehicle makers in China by supplying a key component amid the nation's stricter emission standards and booming construction equipment market.

Demand for less-noisy and low-emission trucks will boost demand for high-quality crankshaft, board member Olaf Berlien said on Wednesday in Nanjing.

ThyssenKrupp is building a US$190 million plant in the city for crankshaft, which is part of an engine which translates reciprocating linear piston motion into rotation.

The plant will be able to produce 360,000 crankshafts per year. Construction will be competed in October next year.
