Filtration business seen to expand 20%

German diversified manufacturer Freudenberg Group expects its filtration business to continue to grow above 20 percent annually in China which is working to improve air quality.

The company, which provides air filters for vehicles, homes and workplaces, has achieved 25 percent annual growth in its Filtration Technologies division in China over the past years, Hua Li, the division’s general manager, said yesterday.

Freudenberg launched a 36 million yuan (US$5.9 million) plant in Chengdu this year to produce automobile filters to meet rising demand from automakers, including Volkswagen and Geely’s Volvo.

In China, 80 percent of Freudenberg’s filtration business comes from the auto industry, compared with 50 percent globally, Hua said. The firm intends to venture into supplying more non-auto segments such as operating theaters in hospitals.

China is deepening efforts to clean up its air and water amid public anger over environment degradation.
