Markem-Imaje product printer factory expanding capacity by 80%

MARKEM-Imaje, the world’s largest provider of product identification equipment, launched an expansion of its printer factory in Shanghai today.

Covering an area of 2,000 square meters, the new plant will increase the facility's production capacity by 80 percent, the company said.

"The new facility largely boosts our capacity while improving the whole production chain including assembly, testing and after-sale service," said Michael Chong, manager for Markem-Imaje China.

Located in the Fengxian District, the expanded factory has an annual capacity of more than 15,000 units of continuous inkjet printers.

The company, a wholly owned subsidiary of Dover Corporation, provides product identification equipment that prints data including best-by dates, tracking data, barcodes, and logos.

"The expansion reflects the company's long-term commitment to China, which will be a strategic investment focus for us," said Serge Kral, president and CEO of Markem-Imaje.

Since 2004, when the factory was built, the company has achieved a 350 percent growth in sales in China.

Having entered China in 1991, the company now has a 30-percent market share in the country's marking and coding industry.
