Owen Mumford opens local office to tap China market
BRITISH medical device company Owen Mumford Ltd opened its first China branch in Shanghai today at it sees strong demand for specialist medical equipment by the country's diabetes patients.
The International Diabetes Federation estimated that there will be around 130 million diabetes patients worldwide by 2030, up from the current 96 million, according to a report by the World Health Organization.
"We're delighted to launch our blood monitoring and insulin injection products in China, and we hope to work closely with local health officials and hospitals," said Jarl Severn, managing director of Owen Mumford.
"Entering the Chinese market is a key step for the company's globalization strategy," he added.
The 60-year-old company sees the set-up of its Shanghai office as a good opportunity to develop business in China and it will expand its local team as the sales volume goes up in the future.
