DRUG maker MSD has broken ground on a new 1.1 billion yuan (US$162 million) manufacturing facility in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, as part of its plan to strengthen its position as a key global player in China's pharmaceutical market.
The 37,000-square-meter plant will be one of the largest of its kind in the Asia Pacific region with an annual capacity of more than 300 million packs after operations begin in the first quarter of 2012. By 2017, the annual output value may reach 10 billion yuan.
