Regional R&D center opens
SANOFI-AVENTIS yesterday launched its first regional research and development center in China to tap growing demand in emerging markets.
"The Asian Pacific R&D center is expected to accelerate the development of therapies and health solutions for the mass population in the region," said Marc Cluzel, vice president of research and development.
Around one-third of its sales income is expected to come from emerging markets in the next few years, according to Cluzel.
Earlier this year, the French drug maker also decided to start R&D operations in Russia, South Korea and India to strengthen research ability in the emerging markets.
"We hope to become the first multinational drug company that completes truly home-grown research activities and will cooperate with local partners," said Thomas Kelly, vice president of Sanofi-aventis' China operations.
