Sulzer bullish on China, to open new pump factory

SWISS engineering group Sulzer, a major pump maker, sees great potential in China's wastewater treatment market as it plans to open a new factory near Shanghai next month.
Rising demand for wastewater treatment, clean water distribution, flood control and desalination will require huge government spending in the sector.
The new 70 million yuan (US$11.2 million) pump plant, in Kunshan, Jiangsu Province, will be capable of making around 10,000 units per year, Sulzer said.
Despite the economic slowdown, the China market remains "active," Kim Jackson, president of Sulzer's pumps division, said at a media briefing in Shanghai today.
"China's plan for massive infrastructure development hasn't changed," he said.
The Asia Pacific region currently accounts for 23 percent of Sulzer's sales. The company doesn't provide a country-by-country sales breakdown.
