Moving specialist AGS will double its branches in China

AN interview with Keith Peter Ellis, China managing director of AGS Four Winds.

Q: Tell us a little bit about AGS?

A: As a specialist in international removals for the past 36 years, the AGS Group also offers complementary services such as transport or vehicle storage, long or short-term furniture storage, as well as many other services to help you settle into your new home.

Over the past 36 years, the AGS Group has built up a?network of 125 offices in 75 countries and regions?by specializing in door-to-door relocation solutions.?

The quality of our service and competence of our personnel have enabled us to obtain ISO 9001:2000 certification for most of our branches.

Q: How many branches do you have in China?

A: Today we have five locations - Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou in Guangdong Province, Wuhan in Hubei Province and Chengdu in Sichuan Province.

Q: Do you have any expansion plans for China?

A: Yes, we are in the process of opening five more locations. They will open on January 1, 2011 in Tianjin, Chongqing, Shekou in Shenzhen Province, Shenyang and Dalian in Liaoning Province.

Q: Why have you chosen Shanghai as a base?

A: Shanghai is China's most Westernized city, and the most comfortable one for expatriates. The most difficult aspect of living in Shanghai is the language: Mandarin Chinese is still the language of the city.

Shanghai is easy to get around, and taxis are inexpensive and easily available. Most Western necessities are available in Shanghai, there is also a number of different activities that one can get involved with in and around the city.

I have been sailing most of my life and hence enjoy most of my weekends sailing at the Shanghai Yacht Club.?

Q: As a company whyis your WOFE basedin Shanghai?

A: Compared with other regions of the country, east China is more prosperous and the government's role is less influential, especially in Shanghai and Zhejiang Province, the latter being the home of the most dynamic private sector in the country. The economy in Jiangsu Province has been driven by foreign investment.

Q: Which sectors are biggest in Shanghai?

A: I would hate to pinpoint a single one, there are a number of growing sectors in a growing city, such as: information and communication technologies, business services (including financial services and education), building and construction, transportation (including automotive, aerospace, rail and subway, and ports).

Q: What would be the most important questions for people to ask when relocating?

A: First, it is important to ask how long a company has been operating. Inquire about their license and insurance. Verifying the legitimacy of the mover can ensure that your items are being transported safely and legally.

The mover should alsobe able to provide youwith information aboutmoving techniques.
