COMAC, Airbus reach pact to boost ties

COMMERCIAL Aircraft Corp of China (COMAC) and Airbus yesterday signed a Memorandum of Understanding on new industry standard, flying safety and environmental protection.

Both sides will work with the International Civil Aviation Organization over the planned new air traffic management that is expected to shorten the travel time of passengers.

The cooperation also aims to improve takeoff, landing and taxiing procedures while emissions will be reduced. Lower noise levels will also benefit people living near airports, the Airbus said yesterday.

The agreement was signed by Gunter Butschek, Airbus chief operating officer, and He Dongfeng, president of COMAC, the makers of the country’s first jumbo jet C919.

“We will strengthen the cooperation with Airbus in areas like global interoperability, sustainability and aircraft safety, deepen the understanding of the world’s latest concepts and operations, best practices and methodologies,” said He.

Butschek said Airbus has been collaborating with all the players of the industry around the world to promote the sustainable growth of the aviation industry. The companies said they will expand the scope of cooperation in the future.
