Discounts boost home offerings
AN increased number of residential projects are launching promotional campaigns next month as the traditional high season for home sales approaches.
A total of 157 housing developments in Shanghai, consisting of both apartments and villas, are set to offer discounts in September, a month-on-month rise of 8 percent, according to the real estate website Soufun.com.
In particular, 26 projects will offer a discount of more than 100,000 yuan (US$15,625), doubling that of August, according to Soufun.
Qu Peng, a Soufun analyst said: "The number of residential projects offering discounts has been growing in the city since June, as buying momentum has remained sluggish over past months, a result of government policies to curb speculation. Discounts are always the most effective way to help boost developers' sales."
Around the city, Central Garden in Putuo District will launch some of its units next month with a discount of up to 400,000 yuan - the highest - to attract buyers, and two developments in Pudong New Area will also offer a significant discount of 13 percent, according to Soufun.
Nearly 80 percent of projects to offer discounts next month are in outlying areas, beyond the Outer Ring Road.
By district, Pudong leads with 39 developments, followed by Jiading and Songjiang, with 19 projects each.
Real estate developers are releasing more homes to ramp up business over the coming two months - September and October are regarded as the golden season for home sales.
