Expats find the good life at ifc residence

WHEN Lee Ellis, a 42-year veteran with Otis, was sent by the company back to China some two years ago, the Australian knew exactly what kind of residence he and his wife, Margaret, would desire: a serviced apartment, probably on the Pudong side of the Huangpu River, preferably new.
Now after living at ifc residence, part of the landmark Shanghai ifc complex in the heart of Little Lujiazui, for nearly two years, the couple couldn’t be more sure that settling down there was a very wise decision. “It has everything we need, and the facilities at this property are all new,” said Lee, adding that he and his wife enjoy working out at the gym and visiting the indoor swimming pool for exercise and making new friends.
“The convenience of having many restaurants as well as an international grocery store downstairs, means we have the option to either dine out or cook at home,” Lee said.

“There is very low turnover of staff,” Lee said. “Most of them know our names and we are always greeted here, which is very nice.”
“The cleaning service provided from Monday to Friday is efficient and accommodating, giving us privacy on weekends,” he added. “Any problems we’ve had are always fixed very quickly, usually within 24 hours.”
Paying respect to residents’ privacy, however, doesn’t mean guests never receive a small surprise from time to time. Margaret, for example, once found a cake in the refrigerator, together with a card and some fruit, as a birthday gift from the management.
Another benefit is that ifc residence organizes activities from time to time providing opportunities for its residents to get together to make friends in a casual and relaxing environment.
So far this year, activities that have been held at the property include wine tasting, yoga class, tai chi class and BBQ party.
