Home sales flat in holiday week

NEW home sales during the National Day holiday totaled 94,000 square meters in Shanghai, with mid- to low-end properties being the most popular among buyers, Century 21 China Real Estate said today.

The volume was almost equivalent to that of the Mid Autumn Festival holiday, which saw 93,000 square meters of new homes sold during the three-day period starting September 19.

"The data demonstrated rather flat sentiment as many home seekers chose to travel or visit relatives and friends during the week-long holiday instead of purchasing houses," said Huang Hetao, a Century 21 research manager. "However, we expect market momentum to pick up right after the holiday and extend its strength for another month."
