Homes for Angola work under way

THE Huaxi Group Co and Haishan International Construction Co from China's Sichuan Province have started first-stage construction of a social housing project in southern Luanda, one of the largest housing projects in the African country of Angola.
The ceremony on Thursday was attended by Angola's Minister of Public Construction Francisoco Higino Lopes Carneiro, local government officials, leaders from the two Chinese companies and Chinese Ambassador to Angola Zhang Bolun.
Youths from local communities danced at the event to celebrate the start of the project, which includes the construction of roads, water and power supplies, telecommunication centers, houses, schools and other public facilities.
Investment in the first stage of the project is some US$174 million and is expected to be financed by a loan from China Development Bank.
Zhang Bolun said the Chinese government was committed to supporting Chinese companies taking part in reconstruction in Angola.
