Hongqiao CBD core area ready by 2015

THE construction of the core area of Shanghai Hongqiao Central Business District should be ready by 2015, and it will enhance closer links between the city and the Yangtze River Delta region, a senior official said yesterday.
The construction of the Hongqiao CBD is also strategically important for Shanghai during the 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-2015), said Xue Quanrong, vice director of the Shanghai Hongqiao CBD Committee.
"The next two decades will be a key period for the development of the area," Xue said at the Shanghai Hongqiao CBD International Business Leaders Advisory Seminar which was attended by entrepreneurs like Hong Kong-based Shui On Land's chairman Vincent Lo.
Since last year, the building of the exhibition complex of China Expo and some real estate projects have started, signaling the development of the area has picked up speed, which is essential in transforming Shanghai into a global trading center.
"We have unique geographic strength that our area is the gateway to link with the Yangtze River Delta region, and we now have a policy of fast growth of our area written into the 12th Five-Year Plan," Xue said.
Set up in 2009, Hongqiao CBD covers an area of 86 square kilometers and integrates Changning, Minhang, Jiading and Qingpu districts. Its core area of 4.7 square kilometers surrounds the Hongqiao transport hub.
