Number Of Idle New Homes Rises
NEW homes ready for handover but not yet sold or leased totaled 106.46 million square meters in China as of June, a year-on-year increase of 0.2 percent, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.
Houses built for relocated residents under urban redevelopment plans were excluded, said the bureau, which tracked a total of 80,522 real estate developers across the country.
The figure compared to 114.94 million square meters registered at the end of 2009, and 106.6 million at the end of 2008.
In 2009, 596.29 million square meters of new residential space, or 5.55 million units, were built while contract sales of new homes totaled 861.85 million square meters, or 8.04 million units, during the same period, the bureau said.
