Sale of rights to use 6 Expo plots starts

SHANGHAI yesterday began selling the rights to use the first batch of six pieces of land at the former World Expo 2010 site.

The land, covering 47,000 square meters at the former Zone A in Pudong New Area, which housed Asian Pavilions, can be auctioned to individuals, corporations or organization from home and abroad, the Shanghai Bureau of Planning and Land Resources said in a statement yesterday.

Besides hosting the headquarters of domestic and international companies under the post-Expo blueprint, the Zone A will also host exhibitions. Hotels, recreational venues and an international community will also be built, according to the plan.

Buildings will not be higher than 60 meters at the areas along the Huangpu River, while green land will account for about 20 percent of the total area in the zone.

Bidders, who can apply for the land at the Shanghai Land Market at No. 201 Nanquan Road N. till May 6, must pay a guarantee of over 12 million yuan (US$1.9 million) for each of the land plot. The result will be published on the market's official website on May 17. Three land plots will be available till May 7.

The former Zone B of the expo site will transform into a hub for corporate headquarters of major companies.
