Sales surge lifts Shanghai鈥檚 home index
SHANGHAI’S previously owned housing index continued to climb in April as sales surged amid improving momentum among buyers, according to a report released yesterday by the Shanghai Existing House Index Office.
The index, which tracks month-on-month price fluctuations of pre-owned houses across the city, increased 6 points, or 0.17 percent, to 2,917 last month.
“Buyers’ confidence soared last month after a series of preferential policies — including relaxed mortgage policies for second home buyers — were announced,” the office said. “Transaction of existing homes jumped notably across the city from a month earlier.”
The prices of pre-owned houses fell in 32 of 130 areas in the city tracked by the office. They rose in 79 areas and remained flat in 19, according to the office.
A separate report released yesterday by Shanghai Deovolente Realty Co showed that more than 35,000 units of pre-owned homes were sold across the city in April, up from 19,900 units in March.
April’s figure was the second-highest monthly sales ever registered in Shanghai, only after March 2013, according to Deovolente data.
