2 courier firms make U-turn on Taobao fees
Two privately owned express companies out of the six which announced they will raise fees for Taobao users now said they will maintain their prices for the users.
Earlier this week, the six companies said in separate statements that they will increase their express fees by 1 yuan to 2 yuan (15 US cents to 29 US cents) for the first kilogram and 2 yuan to 3 yuan for each extra kilogram.
A spokesman at Shanghai-based Shentong Express said he hasn't the latest information about a price rise for Taobao users.
Yuntong Express is the other courier firm that has said it would also keep prices for Taobao users.
There are around 20 companies offering courier services to shop owners on the Website and only a small fraction of them have raised prices. It is estimated that 80 percent of logistic orders from Taobao are handled by them.
Taobao.com, the nation's largest online C2C shopping platform, said yesterday that express fees are decided by shop owners and express firms and that it is not involved.
Earlier media reports said the Logistics Association of China and Taobao talked about setting a fee guideline for dealing with orders from the Website. But a Taobao official said she has no idea on the matter.
