AVIC boosts non-plane business

AVIATION Industry Corp of China made 22.65 billion yuan (US$3.34 billion) in sales from non-aviation civilian business in the first half of this year, a rise of 54.63 percent from a year earlier.

Revenue from special purpose vehicles grew 107.68 percent in the first half on a yearly basis, electronic information industry up 66.16 percent, material industry up 57.99 percent and environmental protection facilities up 44.31 percent, according to the country's largest plane maker.

Its revenue from air-conditioners surged 164.56 percent and auto parts gained 56.33 percent in the first half, the group said today.

The group targets 1 trillion yuan in sales income by 2020, with non-aviation civilian products accounting for 40 percent of that.

Annual revenues from special purpose vehicles, auto parts industry and new energy industry are expected to each exceed 100 billion yuan by then.

Five industries, including electronic information, new materials, mining chemicals and lithium-ion batteries, are each aimed at making more than 10 billion yuan in revenue annually, the group said.
