AVIC inks deal for innovation center
AVIATION Industry Corp of China, also known as AVIC, will cooperate with Boeing to set up an innovation center as it plans to sign a series of contracts with foreign air suppliers during the Paris Air Show, which started yesterday.
The country's largest aircraft maker will partner with Germany-based Liebherr Group to jointly develop landing gear for China's jumbo jet, the C919, and with France-based Safran SA to develop turboprop engines and avionics systems, AVIC said in a statement yesterday.
On Sunday, C919 maker Commercial Aircraft Corp of China, partly owned by AVIC, set up an office in Paris. It is the company's second overseas office - the first is in the United States - and signals the company's efforts to enhance its global presence.
"We have signed contracts with 17 international companies for the C919, and the new office is expected to strengthen our cooperation with European peers," said Jin Zhuanglong, general manager of Commercial Aircraft Corp.
The company is displaying a full-sized mock-up of the C919's cockpit and front part of its cabin, which is 17 meters long, 5.6 meters high and 3.96 meters wide.
China will invest 200 billion yuan (US$30.9 billion) in the C919 project.
