Air Asia opens first Shanghai route

AIR Asia, the biggest budget carrier in the continent, today opened its first route from Shanghai, flying to Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia.

To celebrate the occasion, discount tickets priced at 829 yuan (US$133) each way - including fuel surcharges and airport fees - are available from the Malaysia-based airline's website.

There will be six flights a week between the two cities, rising to seven on May 1.

The service leaves at 1:45am from Pudong International Airport, arriving in Kuala Lumpur at 6:55am. The return flight leaves at 7:35pm, touching down in Shanghai at 12:45am.

The route is operated by Airbus 330s, which have 377 seats.

Until now, Shanghai passengers had to travel to Hangzhou in Zhejiang Province or Shenzhou in Hebei Province to catch Air Asia flights.

The carrier has opened routes connecting with 14 Chinese cities including Guangzhou, Tianjin, Hangzhou and Beijing.
