Big Events Lift Chinese Airports' Traffic
CHINESE airports handled 564 million passengers last year, up 16.1 percent from a year earlier, backed by major events such as the Shanghai World Expo and the Guangzhou Asian Games.
About 520 million passengers flew on domestic routes, an increase of 15.7 percent from a year earlier, and more than 44 million traveled on international routes, a gain of 20.6 percent, the Civil Aviation Administration of China said on its website yesterday.
Airports handled 11.29 million tons of cargo, an annual increase of 19.4 percent. A total of 7.22 million tons were flown domestically, up 15.5 percent, and 4.07 million tons were carried internationally, up 27 percent.
