C919 assembly to start late this year
CHINA will start to assemble the C919, its first domestically developed single aisle passenger aircraft, late this year as a major fuselage part has been completed in Jiangxi Province.
The fore fuselage of the 190-seat C919 short-haul aircraft was completed yesterday at the Aviation Industry Corp of China Hongdu in Nanchang, the provincial capital.
The aluminum-lithium alloy structure, the first time it is being used in Chinese aircraft production, includes the front part of the passenger, cargo and fan cabins.
“The alloy material is the world’s most advanced new material used on a passenger aircraft and can cut the weight of the jet to save the fuel,” said an official with the Commercial Aircraft Corp of China, the C919 manufacturer.
The company will start assembly work of other fuselage parts, the nose and tail of the jet in the following months, the official said.
Launched in 2008, the C919 has got 400 orders.
