China Eastern unveils app for ticketing and boarding
CHINA Eastern Airlines today became the first of domestic carriers to offer ticket booking and sale via mobile phone. Passengers can board the plane by showing their mobile phone.
A bilingual app can be downloaded to smart phones. After buying tickets using the app, travelers will receive a two-dimensional code on their phone, which serves as their boarding pass.
Flight crew will have another app which allows them to check the name, phone number and food preference of each passenger in order to improve their service.
It is a growing trend for domestic and international airlines to use mobile phone applications to simplify boarding procedure and cut the use of paper.
Air China, the country's flagship carrier, is also working on a similar ticketing app which will be released soon.
Air France just announced to equip its pilots and flight attendants with iPads to read files and passenger information.
