China to get 1st Dreamliner within weeks
CHINA Southern Airlines or Hainan Airlines will receive China's first Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft within weeks, a senior official of Boeing China said yesterday.
The jet is waiting for final certification from the Civil Aviation Administration of China, said Marc Allen, president of Boeing China, at a forum in Sichuan Province where some parts of the 787 are made. He, however, declined to give more details on the delivery.
The two Chinese airlines also declined to comment on the delivery yesterday.
Allen said Boeing's deliveries to Chinese airlines will rise 60 percent this year compared to 2012.
Deliveries of the Dreamliners have yet to resume since they were suspended in January after regulators grounded the worldwide fleet of 50 planes following two separate incidents in which lithium-ion batteries overheated on the planes. The regulators last month approved a redesigned battery system that adds more protection against fire.
However, Boeing's forecast of delivering over 60 Dreamliners worldwide by year-end has not changed.
