China's airlines earn 9.4b yuan in Q1
CHINA'S aviation industry earned 9.39 billion yuan (US$1.37 billion) in net income in the first four months of this year bolstered by the recovering air travel demand, an aviation regulator official said.
It's a big improvement compared with the whole-year profit of 12.2 billion yuan in 2009 and a loss of 38.2 billion yuan in 2008, according to Li Jiaxiang, director of the Civil Aviation Administration of China.
Domestic carriers earned 6.92 billion yuan from January through April, accounting for 73.7 percent of the whole industry. Last year, the carriers earned a combined 7.4 billion yuan.
"The government's efforts to boost domestic demand and encourage Chinese companies to develop overseas helped the industry to maintain a fast development," Li said at a forum in Beijing yesterday.
In the four months, passenger turnover grew 16.1 percent from a year earlier and cargo turnover jumped 42.2 percent.
