FedEx Express Links Shanghai with Memphis

GLOBAL express giant FedEx Express has launched a direct cargo route linking Shanghai with its super hub, Memphis, in the United States as it eyes booming cargo demand in China.

The route is operated by a new Boeing 777 jet, which has a capacity of 81 tons and can fly 10,742 kilometers, an improvement of 6.4 tons and 3,889 kilometers compared with its major long-haul cargo aircraft MD-11Fs.

''The arrival of the Boeing 777 jet is another example of how we are enhancing our service to fulfill the needs of China business,'' said Eddy Chan, president of FedEx Express China.

China has become the world's top exporter after its overseas shipments surged 17.7 percent from a year earlier in December.

There will be 15 B777 jets in the company's fleet by the end of 2014 and FedEx has a second order of 15 B777 jets to be delivered between 2014 and 2019.
