Garuda to increase frequency

GARUDA Indonesia will increase the frequency of its non-stop flights between Shanghai and Jakarta to daily from December 15 to meet high demand from travelers, the airline said yesterday.

"We'll increase the frequency of flights due to high customer demand departing from east China, and is also part of our efforts to make Garuda Indonesia the most important air bridge between China and Indonesia," Shanghai-based General Manager Sentot Mujiono said.

He said raising the Shanghai-Jakarta flight frequency from the current four times weekly is a part of a program called "Quantum Leap," which calls for the Indonesian flag carrier to double its fleet to 116 aircraft by 2014.

He said the carrier has officially joined SkyTeam, the world's second-largest airline alliance.

The airline flies daily from Jakarta to Guangzhou and five times weekly between Beijing and Jakarta.
