HK carrier inks deal to boost air links
HONG Kong-based Cathay Pacific Airways signed a new code-share agreement yesterday with Seattle-based Alaska Airlines, which Cathay said in a statement would further boost connections between North America, Hong Kong and the rest of Asia.
Bookings for the new code-share services started yesterday while bookings for travel would begin on October 7, according to the statement.
Under the agreement, Cathay Pacific's "CX" code will be used on Alaska Airlines flights between the cities of Seattle and Portland and three of the Hong Kong carrier's North American gateway cities - Los Angeles, San Francisco and Vancouver.
Cathay Pacific Chief Executive Tony Tyler said the cooperation with Alaska Airlines will further expand the carrier's reach in the North American market, offering wider choice and greater convenience for passengers.
At the same time, the increased passenger traffic that will be generated by this new partnership will help to further strengthen Hong Kong's position as one of the world's leading aviation hubs, he added.
Cathay Pacific said it is committed to strengthening its network in order to provide greater connectivity for passengers through the Hong Kong hub. The airline recently launched two new routes to Milan and Moscow, expanded its code-share arrangement with Japan Airlines, and will enhance key services for the winter.
Cathay Pacific operates 128 wide-body aircraft, comprising Airbus A330s and A340s, Boeing 747s and 777s. The airline's operations include passenger and cargo services to 114 destinations in 36 countries and regions worldwide.
