Logistics sector gets help to trim costs
THE State Council, China's Cabinet, yesterday unveiled measures to cut logistics costs and improve efficiency.
They include cheaper electricity and water for those engaged in processing and circulating agricultural products as well as lower administration fees at farm produce markets.
A meeting, chaired by Premier Wen Jiabao, agreed to crack down on illegal charges imposed on suppliers by some major retailers and vowed to monitor prices.
The government will ensure land supplies for building farm produce markets, improve the system of logistics costs and launch preferential tax policies for the sector.
In the first 11 months of this year, China's logistics expenses rose 11.9 percent on an annual basis to 8 trillion yuan (US$1.27 trillion).
