'Milestone' for 747-8
BOEING Co yesterday said two undisclosed buyers have placed orders and commitments for 17 of its 747-8 passenger planes, in deals that would fetch US$5.4 billion at list prices.
The Chicago-based airplane and defense giant announced at the Paris Air Show that one carrier has committed to 15 747 Intercontinentals, while another has placed an order for two.
Boeing Commercial Airplanes CEO Jim Albaugh called the orders "a major milestone" in the program. Commitments are not as solid as firm orders in industry parlance.
The announcement came as Boeing and Airbus unfurled a series of orders at Le Bourget north of Paris in their longtime one-on-one battle for market share in the global commercial aircraft business.
