More suppliers sign up for domestic jet project

CHINA'S jumbo jet producer yesterday signed letters of intent with suppliers for landing gear systems, wheels, tires and brake control systems as a step closer to producing a globally competitive 150-seat jet.

AVIC Landing-gear Advanced Manufacturing Corp and Germany-based Liebherr Group will research and develop landing gear systems for the jet, according to letters of intent signed with the Commercial Aircraft Corp of China in Changsha, Hunan Province.

Honeywell is forming a join venture with Hunan Boyun New Materials Co and Changsha Xinhang Wheel and Brake Co to provide wheels, brake control system and tires for the project.

"We will decide overall technical schemes, manufacturing schemes and customer service schemes, as well as select suppliers for aircraft body, engine, system equipment, material and standard part by the end of this year," said Jin Zhuanglong, general manager of the jet maker.

China is investing 200 billion yuan (US$29.28 billion) in developing its jumbo jet, with 60 billion yuan to be spent in the next three to five years.
