Orders for C919 jets grow to 120 with 20 from HK leasing firm
CHINA'S jumbo jet maker has signed a letter of intent with an aircraft leasing company to sell 20 C919 jets to increase orders for its homemade jets to 120.
The Hong Kong-based China Aircraft Leasing Co Ltd targets domestic airlines as potential clients for the 150-seat jets and also seeks customers overseas, a marketing official surnamed Zhao of the company told Shanghai Daily today.
But she didn't disclose the cost and delivery date of the C919 jets. China Aircraft Leasing, founded in 2006, introduced China Everbright Ltd as a strategic investor in June in a bid to expand its fleet size to 100 aircraft in three years from the current 12.
China Everbright and Friedmann Pacific Asset Management Ltd now each own a 40 percent stake in the company, and some state-owned companies will be introduced later this year to take the balance.
The jumbo jet maker, Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, has received orders for 100 C919 jets from six domestic and foreign companies.
China's four biggest carriers, Air China, China Eastern Airlines, China Southern Airlines and Hainan Airlines, as well as China Development Bank Leasing Co and GE Capital Aviation Services, were the first group of customers to place orders.
The C919 jet is expected to make its maiden flight in 2014 with deliveries slated in 2016.
On July 31, AVIC Electromechanical Systems Co Ltd and Hamilton Sundstrand Corp set up a joint venture in Xi'an with an investment of US$145 million to provide power supply products for C919 jets.
