Shanghai aviation show sees at least 10 jets sold
AT least 10 private jets have been sold at the three-day Asia Business Aviation Conference and Exhibition which ended yesterday, said the organizers.
The Chinese tycoons and firms splurged over 200 million yuan (US$32 million) on average on each of the jets.
"It's quite a major sale," Dan Hubbard, senior vice president of the Nation Business Aviation Association, the co-organizer of the show.
Hubbard said yesterday manufacturers usually do not disclose the numbers to the association. "But one thing is for sure, the exhibitors were very satisfied as they had talked to many potential buyers these days."
"We expected deals would be nailed down through the show," said James Wang, a marketing and communication director with Hawker Beechcraft, which sold 10 aircraft.
Wang said the company will fly its aircraft to Zhuhai in southern China for the next show after the Shanghai event.
There were 137 private jets registered in the Chinese mainland last year, compared to 32 in 2008, according to state aviation authorities.
The number of business jets on the mainland is expected to increase to 1,000 within 10 years, insiders said, while some observers estimate it to rise to 2,360 jets by 2030.
