Shipper sails to profit

CHINA Shipping Development Co, the dry-bulk arm of the nation's second-biggest shipping group, said first-quarter profit rose 45 percent year on year to 458.4 million yuan (US$67.4 million) on higher rates for carrying iron ore, coal and grains.
Revenue jumped 27.9 percent from a year ago to 2.72 billion yuan, on a recovering shipping market, the company said in a statement to the Shanghai Stock Exchange yesterday.
