Taiwan’s aircraft maker in GE boost

Taiwan’s sole aircraft maker AIDC has received an order worth NT$2 billion (US$66 million) from GE Aviation, the world’s leading commercial aircraft engine producer, officials said yesterday.

Aerospace Industrial Development Corporation signed the contract last week for the supplies of parts and components that will be used in a popular aircraft engine designed by GE Aviation, AIDC said.

“What’s really special about the new contract is that we’re contracted for the first time to supply assembled parts,” AIDC spokesman Mike Lee said.

“This is a breakthrough. It indicates that our technology has become more mature and got more trust from our customer.”

State-run AIDC received its first GE Aviation order 15 years ago, worth just NT$5 million.

It now receives around US$100 million worth of orders from the US aviation giant every year.
