Test flight from Hongqiao's second runway
SHANGHAI Hongqiao International Airport ran a test flight early this morning from its second runway, due to open in March.
Using an Airbus A330-300, larger than most Chinese passenger jets, the test flight began at 6:07am and ended at 7:10am.
Shanghai's oldest airport saw its first runway built in 1964. But the airport's capacity has fallen short of increasing passengers over the years.
It has a designed capacity for 9.6 million passengers a year but handled over 25 million last year.
The airport is undergoing a 15.3-billion-yuan (US$2.24 billion) expansion including a new terminal and a new runway.
