Tianjin-assembled A320 jet delivered to China Eastern
China today delivered the first A320 passenger jet assembled in a plant in Tianjin to Airbus SAS.
China Eastern Airlines then received the plane which is equipped with winglets that can cut fuel consumption by 4 percent.
Shanghai-based China Eastern will use the aircraft for commercial flights between Shanghai and Dalian starting tomorrow.
The 2.4-meter-high winglets, named Sharklets by Airbus, are made of light-weight composites and can add an additional 100 nautical miles or extra payload of 450 kilograms. They are installed on all models of the A320 family.
"China Eastern will expand its fleet of Sharklet-equipped A320 jets," said Shu Mingjiang, China Eastern vice president of flight operations.
Airbus Tianjin Delivery Centre has delivered 126 aircraft since June 2009 and it plans to deliver 46 aircrafts this year.
