Airport expansions
ZHEJIANG Province will build three new airports and expand six existing ones within two years, according to the provincial development and reform commission.
The three new airports will be in Jiaxing, Zhuji and Lishui cities, while airports in Hangzhou, Ningbo, Zhoushan, Yiwu, Taizhou and Wenzhou will be expanded.
The Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport handled more than 30 million passengers last year. It will build a third runway as passengers there are expected to exceed 41 million in 2020. Afourth runway is planned for 2030.
Currently, Hangzhou, Ningbo, Yiwu and Wenzhou all offer direct flights to overseas destinations. Zhoushan’s Putuoshan Airport will launch international flights as well.
Meanwhile, Zhejiang will invest 6.2 billion yuan (US$912 million) in the next two years to build 17 small airports for helicopters, drones and other utility aircrafts.
By 2020, 11 cities in Zhejiang will have one or two airports; and by 2030, most counties in the province will have a utility airport.
