17m visit city

MORE than 17 million people visited Hangzhou during the eight-day National Day holiday, up 18 percent on last year and setting an all-time record high.

Tourism revenue generated during the period reached 8.8 billion yuan (US$1.39 billion), 21.3 percent higher than the figure for the same period last year.

The number of visitors reached a peak on October 3, when some 3 million people made trips to the city.

Hangzhou ranked the third most popular destination for tourists during the holiday, after Beijing and Shanghai, according to leading tourism portal Ctrip.com.

The suburban areas of Hangzhou, especially Qiantang River, Fuchun River and Qiandao Lake, proved to be increasingly popular, attracting more than 4.4 million visitors - a jump of 41 percent year-on-year.
