72-hours visa-free

HANGZHOU has obtained the central government’s approval to offer 72-hour visa-free stay to transit passengers from 51 countries, the Zhejiang provincial government spokesman said.

Hangzhou becomes the ninth city in China to offer 72-hour visa-free stay to foreign travelers, after Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Shenyang, Chongqing, Dalian and Xi’an.

Foreigners from the 51 countries, including the United States, Russia, Britain, France and Japan, can stay in Hangzhou and Zhejiang Province for up to three days so long as they have an air ticket for a third country.

The free-visa policy is expected to encourage more foreign travelers to make a stop in Hangzhou and prompt airlines to add flights to the city. Hangzhou now has direct flights to 27 foreign cities in Asia, Europe, Africa and Australia. The city received 2.2 million foreign visitors last year.
