A culture of family doctor

HAVING a family doctor is not a new thing anymore in Zhejiang Province. Over the past three years, more than 11.76 million residents have signed contracts with about 17,000 general practitioners.
The project has been up and running since 2001 and is the first of its kind on the Chinese mainland. The general practitioners are based in community clinics and town hospitals. To date, 11 cities and 89 counties have launched the project.
Residents with medical insurance can visit any community clinic and sign a contract with a doctor. Patients will still have to pay for any medication prescribed by the doctor.
