Antiques saved
Hangzhou Customs recently intercepted four antique chairs being illegally taken out of the country at Xiaoshan International Airport. The antique chairs which were recently identified as cultural relics date back to the Republic of China period (1911-1949). Export of the cultural relics is regulated according to China's Cultural Relic Protection Law and Customs Law.
The antique chairs, originally declared as handicrafts, were intended to be exported by air delivery on July 29. Customs officers temporarily withheld the chairs after a brief examination and transferred them to the Bureau of Historical Heritage of Zhejiang Province. The bureau later claimed these chairs as historical heritage. The anti-smuggling department of Hangzhou Customs has taken over the case for further investigation.
