Artworks pull viewers towards a new dimension
At first sight, it looks like an ordinary painting of an ocean wave, only set in a corner, so there are panels on two walls, plus the floor.
But when you step into the work, it turns into a three dimensional scenario - as if surfing among the wave.
In other exhibits, visitors can experience 3D worlds with dinosaurs, "flying" among bamboo or even taking part in a bullfight.
Those are some of the 80-plus 3D paintings exhibiting at the Magic Art Special Exhibition. The China tour debuts in Hangzhou.
Here's the trick: the works are not framed, but are painted with frames, and an element of the picture jutting out.
This optical illusion lets people standing by interact with the subject of the painting.
Running through to August 6, the exhibition is sponsored by Zhejiang Radio and TV Group and the South Korea Kwangju MBC Culture Bureau.
All the artworks were created by 15 South Korean artists in four months exclusively for the show.
"Every painting is the result of experiment, again and again," says Park Dong Chan, director of South Korea Kwangju MBC Culture Bureau.
Date: Through August 6
Address: Hangzhou Peace International Convention and Exhibition Center, 158 Shaoxing Rd
Tel: (0571) 8581-7008
Admission: 59 yuan (US$9.29); 30 yuan for children under 130cm
