Asian Games prep

THE main stadium of Hangzhou Olympic and International Expo Center is undergoing interior decoration and recently welcomed Husain Al-Musallam, director general of Olympic Council of Asia, who inspected the venue for the 2022 Asian Games.

Preparation work for the 19th Asian Games is 90 percent completed. The stadium on the border of Xiaoshan and Binjiang districts has 80,000 seats.

The building was designed to look like a lotus flower with 55 petals and used 26,000 tons of steel to build. It has won the China Steel Structure Gold Award and is expected to open to the public next year.

The Olympic Council of Asia delegation suggested that the Asian Games Village to be built within 3 kilometers from the stadium to reduce travel time. The underground parking lot beneath the stadium can be turned into a commercial area after the Asian Games.

The council will hold the first coordination meeting in Hangzhou in February.

Other sports facilities at the center are still under construction, including the tennis center, the natatorium, and a training stadium.
