Average salary increase

The average salary of newly-hired employees in Hangzhou reached 8,434 yuan a month in the fourth quarter of 2017, said a report conducted by Zhaopin.com.

The figure ranks fourth among 37 major cities and municipalities on the Chinese mainland after Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen. It is 8.28 percent higher than the average salary of 7,789 yuan for newly-hired employees in 37 major cities in the fourth quarter. Beijing topped the list with an average monthly salary at 10,310 yuan, followed by Shanghai’s 9,655 yuan and Shenzhen’s 9,030 yuan. After Hangzhou, Ningbo ranked the fifth with 8,062 yuan and Dongguan the sixth with 8,023 yuan, while Guangzhou was seventh with 8,007 yuan.

The average salary for newly-hired employees in Dongguan in southern China’s Guangdong Province jumped from the eighth in the third quarter to the sixth in the fourth quarter, mainly thanks to the availability of highly-paid jobs with monthly salary of over 8,000 yuan, which accounted for 29.2 percent of all openings, or 2.2 percentage points higher than the previous quarter.

Urumqi (7,956 yuan), Haikou (7,941 yuan) and Nanning (7,738 yuan) also entered the top 10, said the report.
