Baby boom seen

Hangzhou will fully carry out the new policy that allows couples to have two children if one spouse is an only child, the health and family planning commission said recently.

A survey in the city found that around 66 percent of the 125,000 couples eligible to have a second child under the new policy plan to do so. Most of the couples longing for a second child live in Xiaoshan and Yuhang districts.

A baby boom resulting from the new policy is expected this year when nearly 80,000 new babies are expected, the commission said.
