Beat the heat with these summer nightlife options
HANGZHOU is promoting its nightlife to help tourists get the most out of their trip while avoiding the sun's hot rays.
The activities include everything from night cruises and sports events to teahouses and bars.
Both Xixi Wetland and the Grand Canal feature prominently in the nightlife options and are popular among young people as the areas include stylish venues and intriguing cultural spots.
Shanghai Daily provides a quick rundown of what's available.
Xixi Wetland Evening Tour
Take a boat tour of China's national wetland park. The park features six main water courses including various ponds, lakes and swamps.
With fewer visitors after sunset, guests will be rewarded with a more tranquil atmosphere, where the sound of water and birds can be heard.
Jiang Village Slow Life Community
Situated near the north gate of Xixi Wetland, Slow Life Community features scenic views and bucolic peacefulness. It is a great place for nightlife because of its tasteful bars and restaurants.
The community is all about doing things at a leisurely pace, which can be seen from the names of the venues like Lover Cottage, Free19 Pub, Lazy Man Cafe and Royalty Tea.
All bars and restaurants in the block are arranged along rivers and creeks. They all have a garden, so people can choose to have dinner or beer and listen to the band or go outdoors and embrace nature.
Night Boat Routes
Tourists can also take in the city's sights on one of many sightseeing boats.
The night tour on the Donghe River begins at 6pm from Bazi Bridge. The trip passes four stretches of woods illuminated by colored lights, 13 bridges, 19 pavilions and five heritage sites. Visitors can take the boat at any stop along the river for 10 yuan (US$1.6).
Visitors can also take a night tour on the Qiantang River from Wulinmen Port at 6:30pm or on the Grand Canal at 7:30pm. Tickets cost 100 yuan to 220 yuan. The Grand Canal tour has been in operation for four years.
Tickets are 50 percent off for children under 1.5 meters, and free for kids under 1.2 meters.
A West Lake night boat tour starts this month and will end in October.
People can take a boat from 5pm to 9pm. The ticket office is at Fifth Park Port and costs 90 yuan per person, including fruits, beverage and live music show. Call (0571) 8702-8153 for more information.
Visitors can even rent a small motor boat to tour West Lake on their own. The ticket office is at Broken Bridge Port. A four-seat boat is 40 yuan per hour while a six-seat boat is 50 yuan per hour. Call (0571)8796-7737 for more information.
Guashan Bar Street
It's a downtown street in the north of the city. The bar street is along the Grand Canal and all the buildings are designed in antique style, while red lanterns light those black-and-white constructions with upturned eaves.
The biggest bar on the street is Folk Angle (Fan Ren Tian Shi) Bar, which has two floors. The bar has a 1970s theme with decor, music and knickknacks to match.
Golden Peacock Bar and Restaurant features singers, dancers, bartenders and cooks from the Dai ethnic minority group from Yunnan Province. The bar offers Yunnan food, Dai-style cocktails as well as a Dai entertainment show.
The activities include everything from night cruises and sports events to teahouses and bars.
