Big bang for expo
FIREWORKS will be set off tomorrow evening to open the 12 th West Lake International Expo.
During the 40 minutes' show, starting at 7:50pm, a total of 350 fireworks will be set off and one-third of them will be high-reaching fireworks.
The show will be held at the Qiantang River main hall and the Grand Canal.
Visitors can enjoy the show in both free viewing areas and areas that require tickets. The ticket areas are capable of holding a total of 107,000 people.
New service center
The Hangzhou Administrative Service Center has officially moved to the Resident Center. It will be open on Monday.
The new center, located in Building H in the resident center, covers a total area of 14,000 square meters. So far, a total of 49 functional departments and related companies have settled there, and 153 management windows have been set.
Besides the original fixed assets investment approval service, the center will also offer three new types of services: An investment projects approval service, a business registration approval service and a business trade approval service. This improvement brings a "one-stop" service to government administrative approval.
The city public resource trading center has also settled in the Resident Center. Located in Building L, the trading center will cooperate with the Administrative Service Center.
Boat race begins
The 2010 Grand Canal National Dragon Boat Race will be held on Tuesday between Gongchen Bridge and Qingfang Bridge.
The competition will be divided into men's and women's categories. The events include an "Aquatic Marathon", a 5,000-meter circuit race and a standard 500-meter straight race.
The best vantage points for spectators include Gongchen Bridge, Qingfang Bridge and the eastern side of the Canal.
To encourage audience participation, a novelty dragon boat race on land is organized at 18:30 tonight at the Canal Culture Square.
Lucky wedding day
Like August 8, 2008 and September 9, 2009, last Sunday's date - October 10, 2010 - was regarded as a lucky day for marriage.
By 6pm that day, 3,442 couples had got married in Hangzhou, slightly less than the number on 9 September 2009.
The first couple in the Xihu District arrived at the marital center at 4am. In Xiacheng District, the queue at the window extended for a few hundred meters.
Based on experience, marital centers implemented a reservation for this busy day and by 6pm nearly all the couples were married.
Beer fest is coming
The 2010 Hangzhou Snow Beer Festival is to be held from next Friday until October 31 on the central lawn in the Westlake Grand Garden on Nanshan Road.
The beer festival has been held annually in Hangzhou since 2005. This year, a high-end beer festival which combines both Chinese and Western cultural elements will be held in the Westlake Grand Garden. Snow beer, delicious food from home and abroad and various kinds of entertainment will be offered during the festival.

Garden for jobs
According to an employment survey in Jianggan District, there are 41,865 unemployed people aged between 20 and 30 in the district.
The average employment rate is 80.6 percent.
To create employment opportunities for young people in the area, Jianggan District has adopted several policies.
One of the policies is the establishment of the "Venture Garden" where career guidance is offered to youngsters.
The garden also offers small loans to youngsters who set up their own businesses.
The usual loan amount is around 100,000 yuan (US$15,023), but for some special projects a 200,000 yuan interest-free loan is also available.
Those who are unable to launch their businesses in the garden may receive other subsidies for starting work.
