Big crowds for cartoon fest

The 13th China (Hangzhou) International Cartoon and Animation Festival attracted 1.39 million visitors from 82 countries and regions and saw deals worth 15.33 billion yuan (US$2.33 billion) signed before it closed on Monday evening.

This year’s festival included children’s cartoon and cosplay contests — both China legs of international competitions.

Cosplay performing team Atsukine won the first prize for foreign contestants. They beat 11 teams in Spain to enter the finals in Hangzhou.

Big-name companies like Google, Facebook, Disney, DreamWorks and CBeebies all had booths at the festival. Domestic cartoon and animation companies, leading TV and online broadcasters such as CCTV, Alibaba, Tencent, Netease and Zhejiang Satellite TV all exhibited their products at the festival, which live-streamed some events to 5.27 million viewers worldwide.

Some animation films were screened in community cultural centers in towns and villages around Hangzhou.
